The Arc of Davidson County provides services to adults and children with intellectual
and developmental disabilities in 20 Middle Tennessee counties, through
a contract with the Tennessee Department of Mental Retardation Services Medicaid Waiver Program.
Funding for the Medicaid Waiver program comes from both the federal and state level.
The program is designed to allow states to use Medicaid dollars to fund services out
in the community instead
of inside institutions.
At present, people supported by The Arc of Davidson County range from age 4 to over 90 years
old and represent all types of disability, although everyone supported in this program must
have a diagnosis of intellectual and developmental
disabilities to meet eligibility criteria. All of the participants
in the Medicaid Waiver program are dependent on Social Security and/or Social Security Supplemental
Income (SSI) and have asset limits of $2,000 to maintain eligibility for the program.
